Better late than never
I dont think I did anything remotely sustainable over my spring break. Instead of driving out to California on vacation my wife, daughter and I all flew. Now just because we werent truly sustainable diesnt mean we werent somewhat eco-friendly. While there we re-used our bath/beach towels, we recycled all our beer cans and when the wife and I went out we rode our bicycles. All this and more but to me it doesnt feel like im doing the right thing it is just something you do. I have always had the green recycle bin and had a father constantly yelling at him to turn off the lights or water or whatever i wasnt using. A lot of who people are and what they do depend on where they grow up. Some places are just a little farther along on their thinking about environmental problems.

Sustainability
So this week i thas been chosen for us to write about a business that we have come into contact with that would benefit from becoming more sustainable. In recent years I have discovered exactly how unsustainable my old company really is. I was a heavy equipment operator/supervisor for the United States Army Corps of Engineers. They definitely have a lot to learn when it comes to being sustainable, not just the engineers but the entire Army as well. Alot of what the Army does is very wasteful, when you start to disect an MRE (meal ready to eat) it is nothing but trash (not the food, many will say they are nasty but when you are hungry food is food those that complain are probably in the rear with the gear thats a story for another day though) back to the mre's. They are wrapped in this plastic almost rubber material and then each individual component of the meal are wrapped as well. Most of these meals are made to be all added together, they have chicken entrees that come with rice both packaged seperate. if they were to package them together how most were meant to be eaten anyway that would cut down on half of the pakaging and the trash left behind. There are probably some soldiers out there that will read this and many will agree and some will not, i realize that the situation may dictate on how much time you have to eat or how much you may allow yourself to eat, there are times when you are given just enough to sustain yourself for a mission which is only supposed to last a few days and two weeks in you're still there but those few who know what im talking about wear a different color beret than everyone else and are trained to do what needs to be done.
